Pros and cons of visiting the Plitvice Lakes

Plitvice

The Plitvice Lakes in Croatia are included on the UNESCO World Heritage register. The national park has 16 lakes and 90 waterfalls. It’s definitely something to cross off your bucket list. But there are a few pros and cons to consider before you make the trip to Plitvice.

Pros (why you should visit Plitvice)

There are a few reasons why you should definitely visit Plitvice. First of all, if you are on a round trip in Croatia anyway than Plitvice is a place to go. And definitely if you are crossing off your World Heritage bucket list.

The second reason is the beauty of Plitvice. I’ve never seen so many waterfalls in one place and it was really impressive. It still looked stunning even though I was there on a cloudy day. I could imagine how beautiful it is on a sunny day.

Cons (why you shouldn’t visit Plitvice)

The beauty of nature is not the problem but be prepared if you visit Plitvice because the crowd of people who are there is insane. You will walk over tiny bridges with hundreds of people around you. It’s even busier than the main shopping street in Amsterdam on a Saturday. And all these people will stop and take pictures at every corner.

I was expecting Plitvice to be busy and that’s why I was at the gate at 7 am. It was quiet at that time but a few hours later it got crowded. At 11 am I wanted to leave because it was too busy. Luckily I had walked the entire route by then, so I didn’t miss out.

The pictures below were made early in the morning and some of them are made in a way that there are no people on it. I wanted to capture the beauty and not the people, so it’s not a totally real perspective but it looks great doesn’t it?
