York is one of those Roman cities surrounded by a wall to protect its people. I love this city walls because there is so much history behind it. You don’t even have to know the real story, because walking on the wall makes you imagine how it was in that time. I imagine a battlefield where knights sitting in de loopholes of the wall, trying to protect their city from intruders.
The wall was originally made by the Romans but the Danes occupied the city in 867. By this time the Roman defences were in poor repair, and the Danes demolished all the towers save the Multangular Tower and restored the walls.
I’ve made a set of photo’s while I was walking on the city wall, so you can see how beautiful it is. The pictures are made in fall, wich makes the colors very interesting.
